Beginning on the 9th of January, Waikato Water Polo will be operating a new Swim for Polo program. We have taken feedback on the conditioning element of our skills and conditioning program from 2016 and adapted our swimming program accordingly. The swimming program will no longer be run by Ace swimming club but instead by a number of Waikato Water Polo accredited Swim Coaches. The primary coaches are Rahiti Teokotai-White, Callum Maxwell and Holly Jonson. This will add a more Water Polo specific element to the swim training.

Swim training will operate 5 nights a week (Mon-Fri) at the dive pool end of the 50m pool at Water World. These trainings will run from 7-9pm. Between 7-8pm is an opportunity for any U12s and U14s to train. Swim training will incorporate elements of leg work and water polo specific skills as well as conditioning training for players. Between 8-9 will be an opportunity for players U16 and over to train.

Players are expected to be at the pool half an hour before their swimming session begins for the night in order to go through a range of water polo strength exercises designed to improve core strength, leg strength and rotator cuff stability.

With the increasing number of players in our representative programs, it is incredibly important that those who wish to play in representative teams attend conditioning trainings. This will also be beneficial in terms of ensuring that our players are in condition to perform to the best of their abilities at national championships.
